Update on things

This has been an eventful year so far. The City budget has a huge shortfall and they wanted to close my department, which is the only department serving the some 700,000 persons in the city living with disabilities. Fortunately, we were able to keep from being dismantled and will go on at least for the rest of this fiscal year and next.

So, I am working on a number of things - the Third Annual Disability Art Exhibit in City Hall, a disability art exhibit at Los Angeles International Airport, and an all-day event to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. I guess I was so active in keeping the department intact that my energy level continues to be high.

More than once I have wondered if my surviving cancer meant that I was supposed to be doing the work I am doing - trying to do what I can to make life easier and more meaningful for persons with disabilities. I think that sometimes God puts in this life to do just one small thing, and maybe this is my one small thing.

Well said and spiritual. Let a Higher Power find our mission/purpose for us and we can boundary out the rest. You are doing great and happy B day this Monday...you've passed the 60s age categories and that's a milestone in itself. Let me know of the exhibits coming up if any.

This is no small thing Sheridan and I don't think anyone else in the bunch could be as committed as you are to produce this event. I know with you leading the coordination of this new event, it will be as successful as the Art Showcase. Thanks for all that you do!
