Life in the 1500's

In the 1500's baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the sons, then the women and then the children. Last of all was the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it.

Hence the saying, "don't throw the baby out with the bathwater."

I first saw this saying translated into Spanish back in the 70's or 80's on a self-help book by probably Dyer or one of those new agey writers. It did not make sense at all until two decades later. I always wondered what it meant. Hey Sheridan, go to the L.A. County Fair with Tony. I am sure you both will enjoy it and you will get out of your head about next week!
